Sizen iM10 Converts Stereo To 5.1 Surround

While devices like the PSP and the iPhone feature adequately sized screens for watching movies, the pitiful built-in speakers or stereo headphones option means you won’t be enjoying the same surround sound experience you’d get at the theater, or even at home. Or does it? The Sizen iM10 looks to be about the size of 2 stacked iPod Shuffles and claims to upscale regular stereo sound to a 5.1 surround experience. It apparently relies on a “bass and treble reinforcement technology” known as AST coupled with another technology called DBEX to properly ‘balance’ the sound. To be honest I’m not 100% sure how it actually works, and this whiteboard illustration designed to clear things up doesn’t help. But I am curious how the fake 5.1 surround effect actually sounds.

The iM10 uses a built-in lithium polymer rechargeable battery, and on a single 2.5 hour charge you can expect to get about 7.5 hours of use. And it features a mini-USB jack allowing it to be charged from a laptop if needed. It also has 3 different operating modes for regular stereo sound or 2 x 5.1 modes customized for music or movie playback. It will be available in Japan in 6 different colors for about $90.

Western Digital NAS Server with up to 4TB storage

Aimed primarily at small business users and "multimedia" junkies, the 4-bay NAS comes with gigabit Ethernet, support for multiple RAID configurations, and even the ability to act as an iTunes music server. NAS server has four hard-drive bays: each can accommodate a 3.5-inch SATA internal hard drive up to 1TB in capacity, making the server's total storage space up to 4TB. The NAS server features Gigabit Ethernet for network connectivity and three USB 2.0 ports for additional external storage or power management with a UPS unit. Unfortunately, these USB ports can't be used for any other USB-related functions such as print-serving or USB cameras. Sony updates its N.U.D.E. EX Earphone Series with the new MDR-EX500SL and MDR-EX300SL. These earphones features the multi-layer diaphragm technology that produces high-resolution sound and hybrid silicon earbuds that offers users a more comfortable and secure fit. The Sony MDR-EX500SL offers a frequency response of 5Hz-25,000Hz, a sound pressure level of 106dB/mW, an impedance of 16Ω, and features Neodymium 13.5mm drivers. Razer introduces the Megalodon and the Moray

Razer announced two new audio products today at the Games Convention - the Razer Megalodon 7.1 channel surround sound gaming headset, and the Razer Moray In-ear Noise Isolating Gaming Earphones. The Razer Megalodon features Razer’s new Maelstrom Audio Engine which Razer claims “has the ability to process audio algorithms up to 800% faster than traditional HRTF virtual surround sound technologies”. Thus the faster the audio processing, the quicker you’ll hear your enemies footsteps right behind you in a game.
